Unless you sit near the stage, the acoustics of that hall really rob the music of the "warm" and "live" quality that I've heard at other halls. And since the acoustics are extremely "dry", even Mozart has the potential of sounding like "squeaks and squawks" in that place.... It seems like the energy is confined to the space within the acoustic shell- Not much sound projects into the hall.I heard what I thought was a decent performance of the Mahler One..... I wouldn't call the sound in that place replicable on a stereo, but then again, I wouldn't want my stereo to sound like that.
Was there at least a decent turnout? When I saw the Mahler, the place was just over half full. The worst turnout I've experienced for a subscription concert for a "major" symphony orchestra.
