If you plan to attend a live performance of classical music, especially a symphony orchestra, it is definitely worthwhile to audition the music beforehand by either purchasing it or borrowing it from the library. After a minimum of three complete listenings, the first one casually but at least one of the others while paying some attention to it, you will be much more receptive to the live performance. Even if it's music that, at first hearing, seems not to your liking, you will enjoy the actual event and be able to concentrate on the sheer sonic beauty of the live instruments compared to the very best recording played back on the very best system. Vice versa, you may very well find that you then enjoy the recordings a lot more after hearing it performed live. Many years ago, the wonders of Beethoven's Third Symphony unfolded for me in just that manner.Peace,
