DH cones w/felt ends?...

Hey there-
Anyone compared using the bigger DH cones (w/ DH squares under cone) both with and without the silly felt cone top covers? I tried them recently with the felt covers, having seen (but not heard) many people using them this way. I always used mine after removing the felt covering. Just curious about thoughts on this. I tried the cones w/the felt & the sound turned hazy, to be brief.
