To give you an idea, I have an "audiophile" CD from Usher Audio, which has some interesting stuff on it. It was played quite often during the HE2006 show in Los Angeles. And it is indeed an excellent recording, on most tracks. A lot of people think it's the latest, greatest audiophile reference, and think I'm nuts when I tell them it doesn't hold a candle sonically to the Who's "Endless Wire", Syntek's "Mundo Live", Steamroller's "Christmas Extraordinaire", or Curnow's "Music of Metheny/Mays"..... Yet, with the exception of the Steamroller, I'd listen to these albums had the recordings been mediocre.Over the years, in my recollections, the number of audiophiles who are in it for the sound, rather than for the music, I can count on only one hand. I think it's a stereotype that's been vastly overblown.
