When comparing equivalent SACDs and CDs on my system, for recordings which do the formats justice, I often find that SACD images are more three dimensional whereas CD images are more like 2D projections in a 3D space. Also, the CD images sometimes have unnatural "etching" or outlining that is not present or less noticeable with the SACD. Overall, the CD presentation can sometimes seem a bit "cartoon-like" in comparison to the SACD. Maybe because I'm a very visual listener, I generally find the SACD presentation to be more natural.SACD is also better at reproducing cymbals to my ears. I've made comparisons where the cymbals on the SACD seemed to have a natural sounding shimmer while the same cymbals on the CD had more of a swish. Or in other cases, fast cymbal hits that were just a flat tizz on CD had a little more distinct initial hit and decaying ring on SACD.
