Re: Ayre & AC

Some of us are forced to compromise. Dedicated lines are ideal, but other appraoches can be an acceptable stop gap solutions until the dedicted lines can be had. Here is what I have done and it's been working great, and allowed me to have my audio and video systems mixed with pretty good results. Of course I will eventually be going to the heavy duty good stuff when my plans unfold.

Identify 2 circuits of the house within reach of the sound system. I will refer to one circuit as analog dedicated circuit and the other the digital/video/computer/everything else etc. dedicated (haha) circuit. The key thing to keep in mind and make sure of here is complete electrical isolation between the two so as to not introduce ground loops. I have accomplished this by using optical links to bridge the gap.

On the so called analog dedicated circuit I only allow my amplifiers preamp and a single source at a time to be powered. I also went the extra mile and removed everything else from the circuit including lamps and etc. but this is mostly due to the high power amplifiers I use needing every available energised electron for themselves. For kicks I upgraded the outlets to some low cost spec grade outlets from the local hardware store to try and reduce line and contact resistance, note that I am saving buying the low ferous material super audiophile outlets until I finally can get my dedicated lines installed.

On the other "digital" circuit I have found that pretty much anything goes without any noticeable negative impact. In other words this is where to put any ground loop causing or digital power supply hash generating equipment. For example on this secondary circuit I have: computer, DVR, TV, video game console etc.

Doing this psuedo dedicated circuit appraoch allowed for an improvement in my system in the percieved slight reduction of hash on the sound along with complete elimination of a more noticeable but still slight ground loop problem I was dealing with. The really really noticeable aspect of this change was the improved overhead it seemsed to give the amplifiers. I blame this on the higher quality receptacles and not having to share the power with a bunch of other equipment. Having slightly less percieved noise floor was a nice bonus.
