A different speculation

Redbook CD is a mature medium whilst SACD is relatively new. Current CD performance is considerably better than it was a few years after CD was introduced. No doubt SACD performance is still working out some wrinkles as well. After all, it still has a few years ago to reach CD's level of maturity and CD performance is still improving despite the fact that it's been around a lot longer than SACD.

I wonder how many people found aspects of LP performance distracting only a few years after the introduction of the LP, and what the views of those people would be today given the improvements in playback over the intervening years for both of those media.

When we're used to one medium or component, the differences in a new one can often seem to 'stick out' until we become used to them. As we become familiar with the new presentation, we find it easier to not get caught up by those changes and to put our focus back onto the music.
