I gotta call bull on this one.

The most important things in a studio are the musicians, their instruments, the engineer, the acoustics, then the speakers. These are all orders of magnitude more important than an of the electronics. Mics would be the next most important, but what an engineer does with them is greatly affected by the acoustics in the main room, the acoustics in the control room, and the frequency and polar response of the monitors. Any processing the engineer does is affected by any problems he hears with the instruments and, again, is also greatly affected by the acoustics in the control room and the frequency and polar response of the speakers.
