to launch a new format, you have to start with making enough of the discs.
These very expensive replicating machines are not something you get as next day delivery. They can be the bottleneck limiting sales.
HD DVD can be made on old DVD machines, Blu ray need new machines.
This is the real reason, why porn companies and other bean counters supported HD DVD.
