Re: Any one eared audiophiles around?

Count me in; I'm 39 and my right ear has been deaf since birth, so I've never heard stereophonic sound. Things such as soundstage width & depth are totally foreign concepts for me as I cannot hear them, but it hasn't diminished the pleasure I get from music. I have played bass for 25 years, even as a pro, played hundreds of gigs and have generally been into collecting records and hifi since I was in high school.

For the last 6 years I've had mild tinnitus in my left ear; I should also mention that the hearing I have in my left ear is far from perfect, I can't (and never could) hear past 10 KHz. Even with all that I've heard compliments on my ability to hear musical details in a playback in a studio situation; I think it's due to ear training and generally learning to listen analytically. One guitarist / songwriter said he found it kinda baffling that "the guy with the worst hearing in the band has the best ears". With "best ears" he meant my ability to listen music from a producer's viewpoint. So don't despair, you'll still be able to enjoy music even if it will sound different.
