The correct term for this specific cable would be a "telescopically shielded unbalanced to balanced adapter cable"!!
WOWZERS! Rane notes rock...
Use at your own risk. Not purchasing your pre-amp especially if it appears to have been on fire. Keep preamp levels at min. and turn up SLOWLY when testing cables. Always ring out DIY cables with a meter before putting into system.
Usually... if you use Rane Note 110 you simply don't get these problems. Ground loop problems are often mitigated, but can still happen depending on the gear.
