lower input impedance gives lower noise, if the product anyway is very silent. But in most cases other factors cause more noise, so 47k can be a good choice for tube sources.

The 10k standard comes from pro equipment, that can drive down to 600 Ohm anyway. A pro user might put many inputs on one output, and 10 units of 10k gives 1k, still ok for a pro source.
