I think I was the youngest guy there. Brought my VERY non audiophile pop with me, long drive from WI.I remember going to Terry’s room, it was right near the entrance of the hotel. To this day Terry’s room is one of maybe 4 or so rooms I vividly remember because of its wow and ah factor. But also because of how down to earth this man demoing his gear was. He looked, talked and presented himself as just a nice guy who really seemed to love music and people. The show had allot of, shall I say, eccentric types, but I didnt get that from this man at all.
I was very green in the many forms of highend audio and my father was a virgin till that day. We both walked into the Cain room, looked at the speakers and were kinda bewildered as to what we might hear. We sat down in the dozen or so chairs with a few others, Terry put some music on and BAM. WOW, we werent expecting that! These tall, relatively plain looking towers with one driver just floored us all with some of the most natural, accurate and dynamic sound Id ever heard. You always read about peoples wife factor examples. My dad has never, nor will he likely ever own or desire a high end rig, and he walked out of that room saying it was one of the best sounding stereos he’d ever heard. I still cant get over how much bass those towers made. I remember Terry’s room had some of the most buzz of any room at the show. No one was doing it like him.
I am honored I had a chance to meet the now legend. All the shared comments mirror my experience as well in some way. He has forged his mark in many ways and wont be forgotten.
My grandfather on my mother’s side died about 3 years ago from this horrible, slow and crippling disease. It first struck him in his throat. This is a painful way to go for anyone.
