I paid in advance for "the best seats available" at Snape Maltings for my first (and probably only) trip to England a few years back. When I walked into the concert hall and saw where my seats were - about halfway back in the center - I was shocked. Were they the best available seats when ordered five months in advance?? When the first strings will struck, I knew the answer. They were the best seats in the house. Clear, naturally warm, spacious, you name it. I can still hear that sound to this day. No wonder so many recordings are made at Snape.
