Math? Math! We don't need no stinking math!

RGA

RGA:"Engineers know math and I want the math answer -- looking at the math what is the most accurate overall system at delivering what is on the disc into the room at the listening position in room dimensions that I listed."

Every spec for every high-end amp made looks wonderful on paper. Pro sound amps are probably going to outspec the heck out of many really fine high end amps. Just pick the one with the highest damping factor, slew rate, and storage capacitor sizes, and lowest crosstalk, THD and IMD. lol

My take on this is that you are frustrated with the "psychoacoustic reasoning" of most of us, and you want to stop the madness and simply revert to the correct math answer.

Personally, I think you probably know by now what accurate sounds like to YOU and I would not trade this knowledge in for ANYTHING a spec sheet has to offer. In fact, spec sheets are going to drag you back (kicking and screaming) into the realm of psychoacoustics! Why? After you read about an amp that specs like a miracle of modern science, you are going to be predisposed to HEARING JUST THAT!

Use your ears man. Engineers build power systems. Do you want an answer from guys who only care about 60Hz and its harmonic cousins? Do you want an answer from an engineer who builds amps? Is he not going to be predisposed to the amplifier topologies that sound good to HIM, which is why he works with those specific topologies in the first place? If an engineer owned nothing but OTL tube amps do you still want him recommending amps to you?

Forgeddaboudit!

Best luck to you in your quest for 'ultra accurate amps'. This is, after all, a noble audio cause. Especially when others are still seeking the right amount of "tube warmth" hee hee.

By the way - I have a old Nikko Alpha 440 here that specs really well AND sounds really good too. You often see old Nikko's hiding on the back-40 shelves of a few folks systems around here. Get a Nikko off of E-bay for $100 and listen to it. You might be surprised. I used to use my old Nikko as a reference - the "coffee beans" to reset my mental audio buffer after getting home from the boutique shop where I listened to $3000 amps. Sometimes, I would just sit at home listening to that Nikko with a big grin on my face, knowing that I just saved.... thousands. Other times, I had to get my credit card and return to the store.

Cheers,

Presto
