Re: Objectively what is the most accurate to the disc system - Engineers!!

You are quite right that I enjoy Audio Note gear that is why I bought it. Their essay on seeking accuracy through precision I like but it relies on the human being to listen to a wide array of music and a wide array of equipment. I can put Peter's essay to the test but not in any way shape or form do I have the time or the sheer amount of gear that he was able to put the test. And ultimately that is STILL an exercise for the individual's ears (in other words I can only "prove" his essay to myself).

I have come up with this for reasons which are my own and for reasons that are tied to dollars. The objectivist mantra for years has been that a competant cd player for $150.00 (and this is probably too much money but I'll spend the extra $100 for build quality is as good as CD players get) any amplifier that is stable to the impedence of the speakers and runs properly is as good as amplifiers get. Some will quibble over the points but that is why I left the space open to a separate pre and power amp because thatgoes above and beyond what objectivists feel is necessary. In other words separates from a professional company such as Crown or Hafler or Bryston. I can purchase separates from Crown for about $200.00Cad used total. And of course zip chord from Home Hardware.

This is why a second system of supreme accuracy seems so feasible to me. The front end and all wiring I can buy for under $300.00 because in all likelyhood one of my cd players will already pass the mustard.

So now all I need is the speakers. And I don't mind the expendature to sort out my own preconceived notions that will either reaffirm my opinions or turn them on end. Also if I buy used I can probably sell it for close to what I paid anyway so no real harm done to the wallet.

Also having a largely aggreed upon supremely objective accurate system provides me a better basis of where everyone else is coming from and as I said will help me understand my preferences in relation to said system better.

I have tried to hear such systems -- I have heard dedicated rooms for JM Labs Mezza Utopia, B&W's Model Nautilus, with top of the line Classe, Hales and Wilson Sophias with Krell, ML, Legacy, Apogee, and even the top Sonus Faber. But this is not about spending the most -- because those are merely "audiophile" names at high prices not necessarily remotely accurate.

This is why I am not posting on the normal forums because this is not a question aimed at music lovers or audiophiles -- but to the truth. Engineers know math and I want the math answer -- looking at the math what is the most accurate overall system at delivering what is on the disc into the room at the listening position in room dimensions that I listed. I am willing to use as many treatments as is required. Though I am not building a recording studio -- this is not a recording -- it is merely to get off the disc what was put on the disc to as perfect a result as is possible.

The constraint is that this is still home audio and so it must still function as home audio -- thus in some semblance of a normal listening session in a liveable room (this is after all what home stereos are designed for -- to reproduce sound in peoples' homes.

My contention has been that something is either accurate 100% or it is not accurate. 2+2=4 and whether you say 5 or 50,000 you're still wrong and 5 may be close but it is still far enough wrong to blow up the space shuttle.

But people want to achieve "more accurate" which is slippery slope because it relies on people's hearing and a lot of words like transparency, uncoloured, right, neutral, resolved, detailed blah blah blah. Enough - the objective engineers can slice through all that rubbish here and now -- I want their "ideally accurat" system and with very miniscule money spent on the entire front end it only really leaves speakers and room treatments and the advanced DSP if need be.
