Call me depraved, but headphones are a little like (what I imagine to be...) "mainlining". People here at AA sometimes debate about what it is that helps to recreate the feeling of lifelike dynamics in a loudspeaker based system. After using headphones extensively for a year or so now, I have come to believe that there is something inherently flawed in most recordings and/or loudspeaker systems I've heard, so that whatever it is that affects the carriage of lifelike detail and dynamics to the ear is blunted. Headphones seem to compensate for certain of these problems, IMO. If you are the type of audiophile who responds to intact microdynamics, you might owe it to yourself to listen to a rig like mine someday.
