General audio topics that don't fit into specific categories.

Welcome to the General Wing of the Asylum

Here are some tips to stay sane in the Asylum.

1)There is no such thing as "Audiophile music". Any music you like or love enough to play *well* qualifies.

2)Don't get caught in the subjectivist/objectivist war (yet). If you like tinkering and measuring and specifications that's great. If the only test instruments you intend to own is your own two ears, that's fine too. (One side likes to call the other side wrong when there is no right answer! We just like to scrap with eachother. In fact, we probably own much of the same music and love it equally much. Once the subjectivists realize how wrong they... OOOOPS hehehe)

3)Don't think that you need to spend $100,000 to join the club. There are many audiophiles here on a budget. The ones who can get great sound with fewer dollars have accomplished the greater feat (in my mind) than those for whom expense was not an issue. I have CD sources that range in price from $125 to $2000 - but none of my sources sound BAD. Envy is allowed and encouraged on systems costing over $50K.

4)Don't be put off by negative people or rude comments. This forum is kind of like "American Idol" with about 200 "Simon's". I am Simon #136. Being Simon #1 is my lifelong dream.

5)Try and put your queries into the correct subcategory. If its about speakers, put it in speakers. You'll get a few gentle reminders then...

6)Don't be afraid to rant. Ranting is what makes AA great.

7)Subwoofer questions should be directed to RichardBassNutGreene if you want the correct answer, or anyone else for an answer you can understand. (Hi RBNG!)

8)I don't attack people. Instead, their posts trigger psychotic episodes where I write frantically and angrily for pages at a time. Feel free to ignore as many of my posts as you see fit.

9)Have fun and remember that most conflicts here are borne of passion for music and its reproduction (and the odd deep-seeded resentment). (Love ya CJ ya big CD duplicating lug you.)

10)Spend more time listening to music than typing on the 'puter.

Oh yeah. And ask about Kool-Aid. There is this thing about people who drink Kool-Aid...funniest thing really...

Cheers,

Presto
