Jacques, the CE specs are arbitrary and written in committees. We have a similar problem in the USA with our smog specs on cars. Here, in California, MANY restrictions (for good reasons) at least) are placed on our automobile engines that the other 49 states don't completely follow, much less Europe. It is the Europeans who have rejected our restrictions for the most part, at least until recently.
The Porsche 959 was NOT crash tested here in the USA and it was essentially banned from our highways for decades. Would you think that a Porsche 959 had to be tested by the American government to see if it was as safe as a Ford Pinto?
Now the IEC is insisting on lead free solder. What a dumb idea!
Just wait, your problems are just beginning. I am already getting preliminary reports on the problems caused by this in my technical journals.
