You kind of set the tone, yourself...

"This has GOT to be a plant."

Isn't that close to saying something on the order of - "No honest person would write this".

Further, your next comment stops just short of calling the reviewer a fool:

"OK, I'll bite: who in their right mind would spend over $2,000 on a 50 wpc integrated amp with no tone controls, no phono input, needs an hour or two to warm-up"

Then, you close with:

"No, I haven't heard it, but at least now, I've heard the hype, and clearly bookshelf speakers are all I need to complete my system."

If that's not a condescending or smartass remark, what is?

Merriam Websters Online Dictionary
Main Entry: hype
Function: noun
1 : DECEPTION, PUT-ON
2 : PUBLICITY; especially : promotional publicity of an extravagant or contrived kind

As stated by the reviewer: "...have recently added some speakers which are far superior to the bookshelves that were used for my initial audition." I assumed that he was referring to bookshelf *speakers*, although I suppose it's possible that he actually meant *bookshelves*. :)

But, the very fact the he said "recently added some speakers which are far superior" would lead most people to assume that the floorstanders are the primary basis for his final opinion.

I stand by my main point that the product is overpriced, when one considers the lack of features combined with the very modest output, sound quality aside. But if there are people who are willing to buy it, more power to them. (I just had to say that.)

$2,000 for a USA built, well made, great sounding, tube amplifier is too much? That's a great deal for the performance.

To quote you from your own post linked to below: "The ONLY thing that matters is: does it sound good?"

In that regard, you are (admittedly)in no position to offer critique.

Also, you assume that everyone wants OR needs tone controls in an amplifier. Tone controls intentionally alter the sound from the source by adding or subtracting from the actual signal. To many people this is unacceptable and not in line with their goal of the least amount of such devices in the signal path. A volume pot is enough.(I fall in this camp).

And as to your "modest output" opinion, I suppose this is only true if your speakers are of "modest" sensitivity. 50 wpc out of an amp with robust power supply is a hell of a lot of power for most stable loads above 88dB.

Lastly, you really should lighten up a little, and it doesn't serve any purpose to call people names.

Point taken, but aren't you the same guy who just 4 days ago responded here - "But then, you'll be in the possibly uncomfortable position of having to make your own decisions."

More to the point, you completely disparaged another person's honest attempt(first attempt, at that) at a review without knowing anything about, or having experience with, either of the primary components mentioned.

At the very least, you were heckling so I figured a little of the same was appropiate. Though, I admit the Nimrod comment was probably out of place with someone I've never traded posts with before. Sorry about that.
