With CDs, my personal experience with my collection--not necessarily transferrable, mind you--I find that a majority are one way.With LPs, tapes and other media I find the split is more 50-50.
It sounds as if you want an easy way to set polarity to take care of a majority of recordings. The only way to determine it is by ear. Listen to a few records both ways and see if you hear it at all first. If you don't, sit back and enjoy the music! If you do, you're going to like what it does to the recordings you didn't think sounded so good, so I doubt you'll settle for that. The AQ bananas are quite good. ;-)
