I've often commented on the fact that distortion adds "apparent volume" to a system i.e. it sounds louder than it really is. The less distorted a system is, the louder that you can play it without listening fatigue. This is something that i've learned from experience, not actual tests that i've performed or read about elsewhere. It's also one of the reasons why i believe that increased levels of dynamic headroom in an amplifier and dynamic range in a speaker system result in a much more "listenable" i.e. "lower distortion" / "natural sounding" system. Nothing is stressed, so distortions ( of all types ) are reduced.

It's good to see that there are others that have not only noticed this, but also conducted the proper tests and studies that support my own personal experiences. Thanks for sharing that bit of info with us Ralph. Sean
