And I see you're indeed using some well respected audiophile level components (Bryston, NAD). The reason I ask my question isn't because I intend to build a case that your system isn't resolving enough or some other such BS. It's to validate my own experience against Richard's and your contention that some components don't matter. I know from other forums which I frequent (car forums) that the guys with the expensive stuff are wrongly assumed to be the experts. Some guy with a Ferrari is always assumed "right" relative to the guy with the Kia. That's not my intent.

But my experience with amplification has been similar to your contention. When I was a poor college studed I had a bottom of the line Pioneer receiver and CD player mated to my Snell E's and it sounded truely awful. When I graduated and had enough money to upgrade I went up to the Snell D's (got a good deal) and auditioned CD players. I found the Marantz CD63 to be to my liking and bought it. Now with a nearly complete system I bought a used preamp and auditioned a wide array of amplifiers. I found the differences between amplifiers to be SMALL, so I went with the cheapest: a used Acurus A150. It was an enormous step up from the Pioneer.

So I was shocked to hear your and Richard's contention that amplification makes NO difference. Surely I have some experience which indicates that good quality amplification MAY not make a difference, but I truely disagree that ALL amplification (including bottom of the barrel Pioneer and Yorx, etc) sounds the same.

I assume your money is where your mouth is so to speak, and that your system reflects your oppinions, meaning that you find all quality amplification to sound the same. That roughly matches my experience although I hold out the possibility that making a big upwards move in quality from my Acurus may sound different even if amps on a similar level sound the same.
