Not a question, but an opinion

John, I still don't think your response to Sean was worthy of a post.

I do not have a question regarding Stereophile, but an opinion.

The process for choosing products for review needs to be revamped. It puts Stereophile in a very bad light. While, for the most part, the products in the magazine represent a wide range of manufacturers, from Rogue to Blue Circle to Burmester to NHT, the overexposure of a small group of manufacturers eclipses the good work you are doing. I believe that the criticism and desperation most express regarding the choices of some reviewers, Sam Tellig in particular, is warranted, and will become increasingly damaging to Stereophile. The magazine's reputation has already been hurt to a great extent.

The number of Musical Fidelity components which have been covered in the past few years opens the magazine up to many issues, ranging from criticism to questions of what kind of relationship exists between the people at MF and Stereophile.

My solution would be limit to two reviews for any manufacturer within a 12 month period. It would be easy to implement, and restore credibility to Stereophile. In addition, it would provide the readership with a larger cross section of brands in the marketplace.

To a lesser extent, I also believe that reviewers should encounter a broader range of equipment to avoid the kind of rut that J10 got into. Paul Bolin is basically in the same boat. Everyone should be exposed to as many facets of the industry as possible. I believe that would provide a better frame of reference in rating equipment. Again, I don't feel this is as critical as addressing my first issue, but should be considered for the long term betterment of the magazine.

Have a great weekend!
Joe
