I was lucky enough to be back stage for the first San Francisco show for Cream. I saw Ginger shoot up a huge spoonful of amphetamine and then saunder out for the first set. Talk about absolute madness on the drums! His eyeballs looked like they were on stalks and he went thru about a dozen sticks and a couple of drum heads. The whole band was just amazing, they were delirious about being in the heart of psychedelic country. One of the best performances I have ever seen.
I think this was in 1967, it was the first time I saw and heard twin stacks of Marshalls....
