I followed your advice and had an electrician in at 9AM this morning. Very nice fella. Found an outlet in the next room with a bad neutral, whatever that means, and the wires to that outlet looked like they were almost charred.So, thank you, one and all. For all I know, if I had waited another day, that bad thing would've burst into flames.
I now have 120 at all the outlets, just like it's supposed to be in America.
