I want to first start off by saying that your mother-in-law is not obligated to anything.

However, I think ebay is a great medium for selling cars, and if I knew for sure there was dishonesty going on, and I could do something about it, I would.

I would contact the seller (maybe he was tricked too and doesn't know the mileage is inaccurate). A carfax report should verify your mother-in-law's story. If the seller is unreceptive to ammending his posting, she should contact ebay.
