Re: Has anyone A-B compared audio racks?

Dear Matthew G.,

What leads you to believe that the rack is to blame? I ask the question to point out that you may be able to try a few experiments with your existing rack to determine if it is indeed the culprit.

For example, if you think the rack may be "bouncing around" too much, try adding some mass (weight) to the shelves and see if the sound changes. The weight can be anything heavy that won't damage your gear/rack (e.g. one or more full milk cartons or pop bottles, several cans of soup, heavy boards, weights from a weight set, garbage bags full of sand or dirt, etc.)

Alternatively, if you think the rack isn't isolating your components from vibration well enough, try putting something "squishy" under your components (like a partially inflated bicycle innertube, bubble-wrap, Fill-Air shipping material, foam rubber, etc.) Does the sound change?

Both types of experiment are just temporary tests, but it might give you a feel for what to shop for in a rack or a "tweak".

Good luck,
Matt
