Overly analytical phono, some possibilities

Given that vinyl sound reproduction involves so many intertwined variables, it is hard to say what the problem is.

A few possibilities:
1. Your phono stage? Likely!
2. Your cartridge? Likely!
3. Mis-match between phono stage and Pre-amp? Possible.
4. Cartridge set up? Possible, though it wasn't an issue before.

The current ARC's have a reputation for being analytical (for valves)and VERY revealing of source flaws, so that would be the place to start.
