* pride of ownership of well engineered items and well performed musical works
* pride of achievement in hooking together, tweaking etc components to reproduce fine music in the best possible manner (within a budget)
* last, and most importantly, sensual satisfaction from the music
Yes, playing an instrument would be a fine diversion and highly commended for those who wish to do so. Sadly I guess the distortion of music that I would generate following this path would be unbearably gross for others under the same roof or within hearing :-(
