Re: NAD S500 AND Rotel RCD-991 : how do you rate them ?

Hi,

I remember you were inquiring about these CDPs awhile back?
I had both CDPs at home for a few weeks. I actually bought the S500 but returned it as it had problems reading some CDs. The RCD991 was a piece the dealer leant me as I waiting delivery of my new Naim CDP.

My impressions of the S500 are in the reviews section.

What is the rest of your system? It doesn't seem to be listed under inmate systems...

In my system I found the Rotel sounding very harshly tinny and digital in a mid 80's sorta way. Interestingly, the Rotel unit was Brian Inouye's (line conditioner manufacturer)CDP that he had traded in. He didn't like it either. I don't doubt that we simply had the wrong system for the Rotel CDP. The NAD is definately more "system friendly".

Cheers,

Mike S
