Sorry Ben, I misinterpreted your question (or probably just didn't read it well enough) and so my answer did not really apply. I thought you were asking about compatibility between 24-bit mastered CDs and a 20-bit resolution player. Rodney and TMT are correct, higher resolution can be encoded in the 16 bits. It would be difficult to determine whether the 20-bit or 24-bit mastering would sound better as there are so many other variables.Dave
