All audio CDs *are* 16-bit. However, the 24/96 remasters "downsampled" to 44.1/16 usually sounds much better than the stuff released when CDs first came. If nothing else, you get the advantage of 20 years of experience with trying to tame digital. I have some Verve 24/96 remasters that I like a lot.
