Yes, there are many crappy CD's on the market...maybe even most CD's.
But there are also some excellent CD's: Mapleshade, XRCD (Jazz
at the Pawnshop a notable example), Classic Records gold reissues,
etc. The musicianship may not be to one's liking on a specific disc,
but the sound quality can be superb.

It's all in the miking and mastering.

To prove that a format is not poor, it only takes ONE example of
an outstanding production....and there are a number of CD's with
excellent sound.
