Personally, I'd never buy a stand-alone DAC.
Why buy a costly enclosure, power supply, sockets, etc, etc (costing 80% of the total DAC price), when you can have the identical DAC module (the size of a matchbox) installed in a preamp or streamer / pre or even an all-in-one?
Your 1.5 - 2K DAC will likely include a DAC module you could get for a tiny fraction that cost - not that I'm suggesting the DIY route.
