No, my DAC doesn't has a volume control. I've run my streamer directly to the crossover for my amps, using the DAC built into th streamer and using the streamer app to control the volume. I would expect the DAC output to go directly to the output of the streamer box. It worked and sounded fine to me.

I'm currently using the same streamer and DAC in my headphone setup, with a headphone amp after the DAC. The amp has a volume control which I set to 0 when not listening and 3 o'clock when I am listening. I use the streamer app to control the volume and the amp volume setting at less than max to make sure I don't lose my hearing any faster than it is already...

If you have a specific DAC you're interested in you could contact the manufacturer with any questions about the output impedance.
