That is incorrect for digital systems.

The byte or word is either right or it's wrong. It's a number representing an analog voltage sample in the CONTEXT we are discussing. And as far as conversion back to analog, in the system area we are discussing that can't happen. The value represented by the 16bit word is either correct or wrong. And errors are random, It's not like there is a long string of errors that is altering the data in the exact fashion you suggest. Ok under very, very, very large odds it could happen, but realistically no. And certainly not across different digital content.
