FWIW, I've had an original Ares for a couple years now. Have no desire to look elsewhere in regard to DAC's. This especially if you're shopping in the sub $1K region. Non fatiguing presentation, yet allows music to sound live and present. This of course depending on the quality of the program material. Yes, lesser material still remains quite listenable. If I moved off the Ares, I'd probably move up the Denafrips line up.
