consider that it is possible the CD lens itself has an accumulation of either atmospheric gunk, smoke from smokers, or possibly both. Cleaning of the lens if it's obviously fogged up with junk is possible but must be done very carefully and with the right tools.
Qtip swabs, camera lens cleaning papers (I used to have some of those), lens wipes, can of compressed air..... I still have a lens cleaner CD from Parasound and it works ok, but manual inspection is what you need.
It's not a big job unless the transport is all closed up in a metal frame with limits on access.
