RE: Question about modern CD players

Well, technically a CD player that plays DVD+R discs isn't a true CD player but a DVD player that may or may not have the video features activated. In fact there are very few true CD players now manufactured as the last time I looked only one OEM manufacturer was continuing to make CD transport mechanisms.

So, as the transport mech for the machine that you want is going to be a DVD one I am not surprised that a screen is required in order to navigate some formats .

We all have our personal tastes but I wonder why, at this stage of things, you would even want to play back FLAC files from an optical medium? Their natural home is to be played from a drive and a software media player or a streamer. That would be what I would ( and, indeed, do) do.
