The AN CD 4.1x sounds a good deal better to my ears than AN's lesser CD players, as it should given the cost differences. But, as I look inside, the power supply for the Dac2.1x has been slimmed down, so the separate components (Dac + transport) sounded better to me. I bought the CD 4.1x because of space considerations, and I am very happy with it.
The funny thing is, I also have a very simple computer audio front end (MacBook Pro with A+ and a Wavelength NOS Brick Dac with external power supply) and it's hard to tell the difference between this setup and the CD 4.1x on the same recordings with any of my preamps and SET amps, held constant. I think I paid $1,100 for the Brick and power supply.
