RE: Need to replace my dead Philips CD-880, looking for suggestions

Since the time you had posted I got around to looking at a CD player that was also skipping that a friend had given me. I probably wouldn't have bothered but it has tube output stage. I changed the laser, which didn't fix it, but noticed that the transport mounting and wiring was similar to others I had seen with the same laser even though nothing else about it was the same. I had to swap around the spindle and slide motor wires, but it dropped in, works fine and resolved the problem.

The conclusion I came to is there must be some standardization of these transports, it might be easier than you think to find one that will work for you.
