Several years ago I returned from out of town and found that I lost all four HDMI inputs to my Samsung 650 series 52" LCD panel. Neighbors told me there was a lightning hit nearby during a violent thunderstorm while I was away. I have AT&T U-verse and the storm also took out the Gateway controller/modem and the DVR.
After doing some research I discovered that HDMI boards are very sensitive to voltage variations especially in that model Samsung. I also found I had a loose ground wire where the signal cable enters my house.
The entire HDMI circuit board would need to be replaced at a significant cost. I never had the Samsung repaired and chose to use the component inputs until the panel was replaced a year ago with a Vizio M65-C1.
The loose ground has since been secured. I also added a ZeroSurge 2R20W-GDR Filter/Surge Protector.
