Sony DVP-S7000 for $8. Here it is playing a CD on the test bench. I figured for $8 even if it's a dud I will be able to get some good parts out of it or learn how to fix DVD players with this as a Guinea Pig. But it's working!
I remember these things (7000 and 7700) costing a fortune 20 years ago.
My question is for anyone that knows these machines. I notice a sort of grinding / "something wrong" noise when the disc is loading and when changing tracks. I figure that means either the rails the laser rides on or the gears that move the laser are about to blow. The drawer is silent and operates smoothly. Ditto the front panel (so cool!) moves smoothly and noiselessly.
What should I already be searching for to do a rebuild on this tank? Playing Yaz "Upstairs At Eric's" and it sounds great going through the outlaw and Boston A-70 speakers.
