Home Digital Drive

Upsamplers, DACs, jitter, shakes and analogue withdrawals, this is it.

Leaving aside the price...

This is part of a set that includes a new remaster of the Redbook version. In the ad copy linked below, they mention that it is "remastered using the latest techniques in noise reduction to help further reduce tape hiss and other unwanted studio noises." That "remastered using the latest techniques in noise reduction" is an almost-verbatim repeat of the description of the 1997 remaster, which is generally considered inferior to the 1984 CD release precisely because of the excessive NR. It's worrisome to me that Decca chooses to tout this as the primary benefit of the new remaster -- until we start getting some reviews of the set, I fear that the main upshot of this release won't be improved sound quality, but merely the ladling-on of yet another heapin' helpin' of Cedar or NoNoise, in the name of eliminating every trace of that Ol' Debbil Tape Hiss (and most of the highs that come along with it).
