I have been saying this for years. Many of the D-A converters on the market are very good to excellent, but the analog output stages that they're connected to are mid-level to crap. Linked below is L C Audio's website. They offer several DIY mod parts to better the sound of CD players and DACs. Read the ZapFilter 2 section and then click on the board itself to get more information. It's a discrete Class A analog output stage with its own power supply.
