Listen to 10 top digital rigs, and they all sound ... different. Those differences are not as much tonal based, but they're evident in other ways, especially transparency.

Mastering will always remain the defining quality, but I've heard more than a few mastering engineers claim that digital fidelity is compromised in comparison to the master tape. Actually, I'll even suggest that the ONLY way digital can sound exactly like the master, is if the master was not only digital based, but it was played back in it's inherited format, without any conversions.
Anyway, the last time Mr.Dr.Phil that we debated online, you ended up using sockpuppets to help bolster you rather obviously weak position. I expect that behavior to be a thing of the past.
