That's true. Also it is not advisable to run one of these straight into an amp (with no level adjustments) without any other gain control in between.
I always start mine at the 95 level and adjust everything else downstream from there.
I remember reading a horror story a few years ago of someone leaving the equipment playing while unattended, and something going wrong with the SB programming or what not, sending way too high a signal to their amps and speakers.
And depending on the setup, what you describe, could be the case, if one was using high efficiency speakers, a powerful enough amp, and the squeezebox having to be turned down way too much due to no other level controls. Bad idea.
