Upsamplers, DACs, jitter, shakes and analogue withdrawals, this is it.

A clarification

I was wrong that Blume was selling the Ayre player on Audiogon. He sold it to someone else, but not on Audiogon. At one point, he claimed that the person was his "brother-in-law".

Here is the full story. A couple of months ago, Israel Blume calls us up and wants to buy a C-5xe on accommodation. We tell him "no", because every time we sell a unit to someone that is not one of our dealers (or someone that hasn't spent a lot of time with it already), it ends up causing problems for us. But he is persistent. He begs, tells us he is a great guy, tells us that we share the same Australian distributor, tells us how much he wants it. He won't let it go, so finally and reluctantly (and stupidly) we sell one to him.

Please note that when we sell a unit on accommodation, the purchaser signs a legally binding agreement:

a) That it is for his own personal use.
b) That he agrees to not resell it for at least one year.
c) That he notifies if and when he resells it.

Then two weeks later we get a call from a customer with a bunch of questions about his new C-5xe. The call comes from area code 416. We haven't shipped a C-5xe there recently, so we ask him where he got the unit. The customer tells us he got it from Israel Blume. So clearly Blume lied to us, and broke the agreement that he signed. (By the way, the new owner says that while the display is too dim and small, and that the tray is plastic, he loves the way the unit sounds.)

So we call up Israel, tear him a new ass-hole, and demand the player back. After another week or two of protest and more lies and deception, we finally get the player back. We refund part of his money, but keep a significant amount as a restocking fee. (We sent him a new player, and he returned us a used player.) Israel is upset and tells us that he will have the last laugh.

And then the "Shootout" comes out on Salvatore's website, killing two birds with one stone. Israel can get revenge by trashing the Ayre player, and Salvatore can get a few more digs in at Stereophile (he is obsessed with trashing them because he claims they are "dishonest").

But now Israel Blume is exposed a a lying, deceptive piece of trash, and Salvatore is exposed as doing everything he claims is wrong with the print magazines. Both of them can go rot under some rock together. They deserve each other.
