For what it's worth, I am sending the AES signal from the DEQ2496 to a Benchmark DAC1, which controls for jitter. I notice a significant difference in sound if I use the DAC1 versus the intrinsic DAC in the DEQ2496. The imaging (soundstage depth) is similar with the digitally processed and unprocessed signal. I assume this means that the phase response is not too severely affected by the processing.
